The Chamber’s Workforce Division supports member and community efforts to ensure an adequate quality and quantity of workforce to meet employer needs. From recruiting to meet immediate requirements to building the workforce of tomorrow, there are opportunities at the Chamber for every member to participate in workforce development.
Recruiting
Low unemployment and strong economic growth in Huntsville/Madison County make recruiting a top priority of workforce development. The Chamber conducts outreach on behalf of our members, the community and the Tennessee Valley region to encourage job seekers from across the country to relocate here. Our recruiting site www.asmartplace.com includes a job board and information about living, working and playing in Huntsville/Madison County. We also conduct community recruiting trips called A Smart Place on the Road. See the Recruiting Calendar for a schedule of events. A Smart Place brochures and postcards are available to Chamber members.
Young Professionals
Today’s young professionals are a highly sought demographic for employers. Keeping them in the community is important, and the Chamber helps do this by sponsoring the EmYrge Council of young professional organizations and by conducting the Bridges class for co-ops, interns and recent college graduates.
Development
The economy of Huntsville/Madison County requires a highly skilled technical workforce, so the Chamber supports efforts to ensure that today’s students are getting a quality education that includes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). We also work to promote our high growth careers and help students attain the business skills to be successful through our partnership with Junior Achievement of North Alabama. We are a founding member of the Valley Innovation Alliance which promotes regionalism, STEM skills development and entrepreneurism across North Alabama and South Central Tennessee for the biotech/nanotech/IT, engineering and advanced manufacturing sectors.
How to Get Involved
There are several ways to be a part of the success in workforce development at the Chamber.
- The Workforce Coalition brings together representatives from business, education, government and the community to share information and align resources in support of workforce development, education and training.
- The Workforce Council is a board-appointed body that provides feedback to the Workforce Division.
- The Chamber represents its membership on the Governor’s Workforce Council for Region 2.
