Global Military Aircraft Systems Celebrates Huntsville Program Office Opening

Global Military Aircraft Systems (GMAS), a joint venture of L-3 Integrated Systems (L-3/IS), a subsidiary of L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL), and Finmeccanica's Alenia North America hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open its C-27J Spartan aircraft program office in Huntsville, Ala.

Analytical Services, Inc. Celebrates Opening of New Facility

Analytical Services, Inc. (ASI) celebrated a ribbon cutting of the company's new 25,000 square foot corporate headquarters. The new facility is located at 350 Voyager Way in Cummings Research Park.
Analytical Services, Inc. is a woman-owned small business incorporated in 1992 that provides management and technical services to government customers. Since that time ASI has grown to over 350 employees with offices in Montgomery, AL and Arlington, VA.

TOYOTA V6 Engine Production Begins in Alabama

Alabama and Huntsville area leaders joined Toyota officials and team members for a celebration marking the production of the first V6 engine at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama (TMMAL).
TMMAL now employs more than 500 team members and has the capacity to produce 120,000 V8 and 130,000 V6 engines annually. An expansion underway to increase V8 production will further boost employment to 800 and total investment to nearly $500 million by 2006. Continue (PDF) »

Alabama officials gathered in downtown Huntsville on August 9 to formally announce the location of the Hudson-Alpha Institute for Biotechnology (HAIB) in Cummings Research Park and the creation of a 120-acre biotechnology site to be named the CRP Biotech Campus. "With a $50 million commitment from the state, we're gaining $80 million in private investments that together will help create 900 direct new jobs. We are actively and aggressively positioning Alabama to become a worldwide leader in biotech research and one of the premier places in the nation for these high paying jobs that can't be exported overseas," said Governor Riley. "The door to greater economic opportunity is opening wider than ever before throughout our state," he added. Continue (PDF) »

Northrop Grumman Breaks Ground on $80M Complex

On June 28, local, state and corporate officials met in Cummings Research Park to break ground on Northrop Grumman's $80 million, five-building complex. Currently, Northrop Grumman has about 1,200 people working in 20 sites across Madison County: Most of those operations will be consolidated in the new facility, including laboratories and research centers.

World Famous Bridge Street Breaks Ground

On June 1, amid laughter and raindrops, Governor Bob Riley praised developers, city and county leaders for working together to make yet another “success” announcement for Huntsville/Madison County. The governor joined other officials to break ground on World Famous Bridge Street, the $210 million, 100-acre mixed-use project being developed in Cummings Research Park by O & S Holdings LLC, of Los Angeles.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., completed an agreement last December with O&S Holdings, LLC to operate a new 200-room Westin luxury hotel and conference center in World Famous Bridge Street the first Westin in Alabama. The facility will also include 45 privately-owned condominiums occupying the top five floors of the 11-story complex. Averbuch Realty Company, Huntsville, was selected to market the condominiums.
The hotel will be the centerpiece of the Bridge Street development a neo-urban upscale lifestyle center complete with shopping, dining, entertainment, office, apartments and residences. The first phase of Bridge Street, including the hotel, two lakes, parking, roads, retail shops, an office building, theatre and performing arts center is scheduled to open in late 2006.

Westar Aerospace & Defense Group (A&DG) has broken ground on a new facility to enhance customer service, create greater synergy between staff and leadership, and advance corporate growth plans. "Westar is committed to this community and our customers," announced Garrett Martz, Westar Aerospace & Defense Group chief operating officer. "The new systems and engineering center is our future home for achievement, teamwork and quality," he added. When complete, the center, located in Cummings Research Park West at 890 Explorer Boulevard (near the corner of Discovery Drive and Explorer Boulevard), will encompass over 85,000 square feet. Notably, the company has already asked the City of Huntsville for an option on the land adjacent to the planned systems and engineering center.
"I am extremely pleased that Westar Aerospace & Defense Group will be locating their new facility in Research Park West. It is exciting to see this section of the park continue to grow and I look forward to the building's grand opening. I am confident that Westar will experience additional growth and success here in Huntsville," said Huntsville Mayor Loretta Spencer. Continue (PDF) »
