Dynetics Breaks Ground on New Headquarters Building in Cummings Research Park

Dynetics, Inc., has broken ground on a 160,000 square foot building in Cummings Research Park (CRP) which will serve as its corporate headquarters. The new 4-story building will house corporate executives and staff, as well as special conference and training facilities, classified and special program analysis and computing areas, an expanded library, and a fitness center. Lockheed Martin Adds Jobs
Lockheed Martin plans to add 160 new jobs to its existing workforce over the next 18 months as part of a government air defense program. The $767 million contract is for the battle management and control systems of the Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS), which is a joint project involving the U.S., Germany and Italy.

Westin Announces First Alabama Hotel

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced the development a new 200-room luxury Westin hotel and conference center to be located in Huntsville’s Cummings Research Park. The hotel, which is the first Westin hotel in Alabama, is expected to open in the fall of 2006 and will be the centerpiece of Bridge Street, a new $200 million mixed-use lifestyle center developed by O&S Holdings out of Los Angeles. In addition to the guest rooms and conference facilities, 40 privately-owned residences will occupy the top five floors of the hotel development and will be marketed by Averbuch Realty. International Intermodal Center Celebrates $13.4 million Expansion

Governor Riley Announces Major Toyota Expansion and New Jobs in Huntsville

Governor Bob Riley joined community leaders from Huntsville and executives from Toyota today to announce another expansion of Toyota's engine plant located in Huntsville.
"This is the second major expansion of the Toyota plant in the past 14 months and is yet another sign that Alabama's economy is on the right track," Governor Riley said. "The fact that Toyota has essentially doubled its presence in Alabama shows not only that this is a truly successful company with a great team of workers, but that it also has a lot of confidence in the economy of our state."
This expansion project will nearly double the size of the current facility. Additional investment for this expansion will be $250 million, bringing the total to $490 million. Another 300 jobs will be added for a total of 800. Annual production capacity will be increased by 150,000 engines for a total of 400,000 units. Continue (PDF) »

Nektar Therapeutics Adds More Jobs
Chemical manufacturer and pharmaceutical researcher Nektar is adding 18 more jobs to its Huntsville operations. The company is also making an added investment of nearly 26 million dollars. Nektar employs nearly 250 employees in Huntsville at two locations, one on Church Street and another in Cummings Research Park. |

Huntsville International Airport Announces $87 Million
Expansion and Renovation Project

Huntsville International Airport has announced an $87 million expansion and renovation project. Construction will begin this fall on the first of a nine- phase project, lasting five years, which will improve multiple aspects of the airport. This project will include customer service upgrades to the concourse, flight information display systems, public waiting areas, concessions, baggage claim area, passenger and baggage screening, curbside check-in, covered parking and the entrance access road. Cut Ribbon on West Runway Extension Project

After three and half years of research, grant applications, design and construction, the $31,123,560.00 West Runway Extension project is now complete. The extension added 4,600 feet bringing the 8,000 ft. west runway to 12,600 feet. Continue (PDF) »

Mitchell Plastics Establishes Operation in Chase Industrial Park

Mitchell Plastics, a division of Canada-based Ultra Manufacturing, has chosen Chase Industrial Park in Huntsville to locate its new U.S. manufacturing facility. The manufacturer was welcomed to Huntsville/ Madison County in ceremonies held at the Chamber of Commerce on April 15. The company has currently invested about $6.5 million in equipment and building modifications/ upgrades. Initial employment is anticipated to be about 75 with another 25 added by year two. Siemens VDO Automotive Completes Acquisition of Huntsville Electronics

Siemens VDO Automotive officially completed the acquisition of DaimlerChrysler's Huntsville Electronics operations on April 1. The company plans to make the former DaimlerChrysler Huntsville location one of its global electronics manufacturing and engineering centers of expertise. As a subsidiary of Siemens VDO Automotive, the Huntsville plants will have access to a broader range of business opportunities within the rapidly growing, global $125 billion automotive electronics market.
