Radiance Technologies Breaks Ground in CRP

Radiance Technologies, Inc. broke ground on a new $3 million, 30,000 square foot corporate headquarters building in Cummings Research Park. The Huntsville-based company, which provides engineering services to government agencies, employs 100 people in 5 states and plans to grow its local employment by 35 people. The new building will be located on Wynn Drive in the eastern portion of Cummings Research Park and is scheduled to be completed by April 2004. |

Matsu Opens Facility

Matsu, Inc., a Canadian-based parts supplier to the automotive industry, announced the opening of its new Huntsville manufacturing facility on Kellner Road in Lowe Industrial Park. The company, which provides metal stampings and weldings to major automotive manufacturers, will serve a growing list of automakers located in the southeast U.S. from its new Huntsville facility. The company has invested $25 million in the 120,000 square foot building and plans to create 125 new jobs. |

Toyota Expands Operations

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama, Inc. announced it will expand its facility and begin producing V-6 engines at its new Huntsville plant in addition to V-8 engines already being produced. The $20 million, 43,000 square foot expansion comes two months after the first V-8 engines were produced at the plant. The expansion will create 150 new jobs for the company and bring Toyota’s manufacturing workforce in Huntsville to 500 people.

Hotel Planned for Downtown

Developer John Q. Hammons announced plans to construct a $400 million, 300-room Embassy Suites hotel in downtown Huntsville. The new 10-story hotel will be located adjacent to the Von Braun Center convention and entertainment complex at the southwest corner of Williams and Monroe streets and will be connected by an enclosed walkway to meeting and convention center space in the South Hall. Construction of the hotel is scheduled to begin in May 2004 and is anticipated to be completed by mid-2005. Once completed, the hotel will employ approximately 200 people.

Alabama A&M Announces New Building

Alabama A&M University announced plans to construct a $2.3 million, 76,310 square foot agricultural showcase center and pavilion on the east side of the university's campus. The new agribition center will be used for the school's agricultural research programs as well as provide a potential location for university and community events. An additional $5 million agricultural research center is also planned for future development. |

Huntsville Community Makes National Headlines

The Huntsville/Madison County community has recently made the top of several rankings in national publications focused on quality of life and economic performance in 2003. The Huntsville area ranked number 11 on Forbes Magazine's list of "Best Places for Business and Careers" and number 4 on Employment Review's list of "America's Best Places to Live and Work". The area also made Expansion Management Magazine's list of "America's 50 Hottest Cities for Manufacturing Expansions and Relocations" and was listed the number one community in the country for "Best Places to Live for African Americans" by Family Digest Magazine.

NASA Breaks Ground on New Building

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center broke ground on a new building to be home to the center's Engineering Directorate. The new building, to be located on the southwest corner of Martin Road and Rideout Road on Redstone Arsenal, is projected to cost $22 million and is scheduled to be completed in September 2004. The Engineering Directorate building will house the research and development activities for Marshall Space Flight Center and will be the first of a planned complex of three buildings. CTA Adds New Jobs

CTA, Inc. will grow its local workforce by 85 workers due to a five-year, $35 million contract with the U.S. Air Force working on the new F/A-22 Raptor fighter aircraft. CTA will provide special coatings for the new fighter to aid in its stealth capabilities. The company, located in the city of Huntsville along I-565 in Limestone County, plans to add an additional 37,000 square feet of production space to its current facility. |

National Space Science & Technology Center Expands

The National Space Science & Technology Center, located in Cummings Research Park, recently completed a $10 million annex expansion to provide new laboratory and research space for space science and climate research. The new 80,000 square foot addition will allow for expanded research opportunities and more specialized lab capabilities to assist researchers in furthering the work done at the Huntsville center. |

Digital Fusion Locates to Huntsville

Digital Fusion, a business technology consulting firm, recently located its corporate headquarters from Tampa, Florida to Huntsville. The company, previously named IBS Interactive, provides services to several government agencies in the area and plans to grow its existing Huntsville office. Huntsville Biotechnology Center Opens

SourceCF, Open Biosystems and Applied Genomics, three local biotechnology startup companies have combined to open the Huntsville Biotechnology Center. The Center, located on Odyssey Drive in Cummings Research Park, is housed in a 24,000 square foot building and is designed to encourage and foster the growth of new jobs and advancements in the biotech industry in the Huntsville community. |

BAE SYSTEMS Analytical Solutions Opens New Building

BAE SYSTEMS Analytical Solutions, formerly MEVATEC Corporation, held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house to celebrate the opening of its new facility in Cummings Research Park. BAE SYSTEMS was created in 1999 as a result of the merger of British Aerospace and Marconi Electronic Systems and ranks among the largest aerospace and defense companies worldwide. The new Analytical Solutions division of BAE SYSTEMS is the result of the recently announced buyout of MEVATEC Corporation by BAE SYSTEMS. UAB Opens Facility

The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine’s Huntsville Regional Medical Campus opened a new 93,000 square foot, $13.6 million building to serve the school’s primary care physician training. The new building, located on Governor’s drive across from Huntsville Hospital, will house the school’s resident physician training programs and patient services as well as the local Veterans Administration Clinic.

Plans for Bridge Street Unveiled

O&S Holdings LLC, based in Los Angeles, CA, announced plans to construct a $200 million mixed-use development in Cummings Research Park in the city of Huntsville. The development, named The World Famous Bridge Street at Cummings Research Park, will be located on 100 acres within the park zoned for commercial services near the intersection of Old Madison Pike and Research Park Boulevard. The complex will consist of a series of lakes with a main retail corridor connecting a hotel, office space, restaurants and future residential developments designed to benefit and meet the growing needs of companies and employees within the park and the surrounding community.

Providence Breaks Ground

Ground has broken for the start of construction of Providence Main Street, a 300-acre mixed-use residential and commercial development in the city of Huntsville off of Indian Creek Road near University Drive. The community, which is being developed by David & Todd Slyman, was designed by Duan Plater-Zyberk and Company, a nationally-recognized architectural and design firm known for its popular residential communities. The community, on completion, is expected to consist of approximately 1,000 homes surrounding a town center with restaurants and commercial tenants providing services for neighborhood residents. Retirement Community Opens

Carlton Cove, the area’s newest retirement community, officially opened its doors for residents to move into their new homes. The complex, located off of South Memorial Parkway in the city of Huntsville, consists of over 160 living units of differing sizes designed for senior residential living as well as a clubhouse, health club and the Carrington Health Center, an on-campus nursing and care home.
