Apple store appears headed for Bridge Street

Huntsville could be getting the state's second Apple retail store.

A building permit was issued this month to Shawmut Woodworking & Supply for Apple Inc. at 320 The Bridge Street, Suite 266. Apple's Web site, under the job opportunities section, lists Bridge Street in Huntsville among five new stores.

"We've made no announcements about a store at that location," Apple spokeswoman Amy Barney said in an e-mail.

Apple first opened retail stores in May 2001 and now operates more than 200 worldwide, including 13 in the United Kingdom, seven in Japan, four in Canada and one in Italy. A retail store is located in The Summit in Birmingham.

Apple retail stores offer workshops and personal training through Apple's popular One to One program, and give customers a chance to try out the product line.
