wayne.smith@htimes.com After breaking ground on its new state headquarters last month, Verizon Wireless is starting its hiring process in Huntsville. Verizon will host a "Meet & Greet'' event Tuesday at the Huntsville Marriott, 5 Tranquility Base. The event is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. It is designed to provide information on job opportunities for the new call center. Company representatives will be available Tuesday to provide information and answer questions regarding the new Huntsville center, career opportunities, compensation and benefits package, and the hiring process. When fully staffed, the center will have 1,300 employees, including positions in customer service, tech support, government customer service teams and corporate sales. According to a Verizon release, salaries will start at $26,000 for customer service representatives. The first class of new employees will begin orientation and training in July. The 152,000-square-foot building represents an investment of more than $44 million. It is expected to be completed late this year. "The purpose of the 'Meet and Greet' is to tell people about the great career opportunities at Verizon,'' said Howard Waterman, Verizon spokesman. "It's a chance for people to meet our human resources team, other employees and learn about our company, particularly our benefits and industry-leading compensation. "It's not an opportunity to interview per say, but to ask questions about the company and our hiring process.'' Waterman said that rsums are not necessary for those attending. He said Verizon is excited to begin the hiring process in Huntsville. "The reason we needed a brand new call center in Huntsville is because of our customer growth,'' Waterman said. "We want to make sure we have the staffing to stay ahead of customer demand. We take a lot of pride in being a great place to work. Our goal is to hire the best and brightest employees.'' The first set of positions was posted online last week. "We are happy to be growing here in Alabama, and are excited to announce this job posting process because it moves us one step closer to opening our doors," said Laurie Severino, associate director of human resources. New Jersey-based Verizon is the largest U.S. wireless company and has 65,000 employees nationwide. | |
