brian.lawson@htimes.com Local company to help provide voice over IP services Huntsville-based Adtran Inc. announced it has been selected by Verizon Business to provide switching and gateway access products for its Voice Over Internet Protocol services, marking a key contract win for the company. Verizon is an important customer for Adtran, making up about 13 percent of Adtran's $473 million in total revenue in 2006. The selection of Adtran's NetVanta Ethernet switches and Total Access 900 Multiservice Access Gateways as part of Verizon's push into VOIP for business customers validates Adtran's business strategy, said Rick Schansman, the company's general manager for its enterprise networks division. "Verizon has a lot of customers and we absolutely feel the Voice over IP market will continue to expand," Schansman said. Adtran has focused on the small and medium-sized business in the VOIP market and the continued relationship with Verizon will help the company get to those customers, Schansman said. The technology research firm Yankee Group reported last year the VOIP business market is expected to reach $3.3 billion by 2010. In announcing the contract win, Verizon said Adtran's product will enhance Verizon's VOIP services. "Adtran is a respected brand in the industry, and has for the past decade been an important network infrastructure and (customer premises equipment) provider for key Verizon Business advanced data services," said Jim Tyrell, vice president for business voice products for Verizon. Jim Matthews, Adtran's chief financial officer, said with Verizon's aggressive promotion of voice over IP services to business Adtran expects the contract award to "translate into meaningful revenue over time." | |
