Intermodal Center sees record month

The International Intermodal Center handled its highest lift volume on record for the month of January.

The center, which receives, stores and distributes international and domestic cargo, performed 4,021 rail cargo lifts in January, a 7.2 percent increase compared with January 2006.

Passenger traffic at Huntsville International Airport was almost flat for the first month of the year. In January, 84,806 passengers flew into or out of the airport, down nearly 1 percent from January 2006, according to figures presented Tuesday to the Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority board.

At its monthly meeting, the board authorized Rick Tucker, the airport's executive director, to enter into an agreement with Tennessee Valley Golf Management Inc. to lease and operate Sunset Landing golf course for 15 years. That firm has been managing the course for five years.
