Unemployment rate is 2.5%; mean yearly wage leads top 15

Huntsville is ranked No. 14 among the "15 Great Cities for Job Seekers" in an article in CareerBuilder.com.

The 15 cities in the list have unemployment rates ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 percent, well below the national average of 4.5 percent in November 2006, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The list also includes the mean annual wage and the most prevalent local industries and occupations.

The unemployment rate for Huntsville is 2.5 percent, and the mean annual wage is $39,540, according to the listing, which used BLS figures.

The Huntsville industry with the largest percentage of the work force - at 19.7 percent - is educational, health and social services, according to the list. The predominant occupation - with 44.3 percent of workers - is in management, professional and related occupations. That information was derived from the 2000 Census.

Two other cities in the Southeast - Fort Walton Beach-Crestview-Destin, Fla., and Charlottesville, Va. - made the list.
