Avocent completes Cyclades purchase

Saturday, April 01, 2006

Huntsville-based Avocent Corp. says it has completed the acquisition of Cyclades Corp.

Cyclades, which makes Linux-based servers, switches and other products, was acquired for approximately $90 million in cash, plus the assumption of liabilities and payment of certain transaction costs. Cyclades had unaudited revenues of approximately $60 million in 2005.

Avocent announced in January plans to buy the Freeport, Calif.-based company. It's the second acquisition announced by the company this year; on March 23, it announced it had purchased Agilent Technologies' remote management business.

Avocent reported 2005 earnings of $48.3 million on sales of $369 million.

The company has said it expects the Cyclades purchase to add to earnings this year.

Avocent stock, traded on the Nasdaq, closed at $31.74 Friday, down 30 cents.
