Chamber honors Toland
Redstone Federal Credit Union chief gets service award Saturday, January 07, 2006
Gerald Toland, the president and chief executive officer of Redstone Federal Credit Union, was given the Distinguished Service Award from the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce at its annual meeting Friday. Toland was recognized for his work in the community, particularly his involvement with the Harris Home for Children over the last 10 years. "When you (help other people), you'll always succeed," Toland said in accepting the award. Toland, who first joined the board of directors of Harris Home for Children in 1994 and later was elected its treasurer, was instrumental in obtaining legal and financial assistance for Harris Home during a critical time in its history. He was elected chairman of its board in 2001 and 2002. He was also instrumental in establishing the Harris Home for Children College Scholarship Fund to provide financial assistance to high school graduates there who wanted to attend college. Three college students now receive financial support from the fund. Toland is still a member of the agency's advisory board. Toland is also a member of the Alabama State Health Coordinating Council and chairman of the Credit Union Coalition of Alabama. He is chair of the Better Business Bureau Foundation Board and a United Way of Madison County board member.
