The Better Business Bureau of North Alabama Inc. celebrated its 40th anniversary Tuesday and handed out Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics to three area companies and a nonprofit hospice organization.
Stone River Inc. of Decatur, an advertising and marketing firm, won the award in the small-size category for companies with 25 or less employees. Torch Technologies Inc., a technical services company in Huntsville, was the winner in the mid-size category, which includes businesses with 26 to 99 employees.
The Huntsville office of Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), a research and engineering firm, was named the winner in the large company category for businesses with 100 or more employees.
The winner in the nonprofit category was Hospice of the Valley, a Decatur-based organization.
Torch Award finalists were Bama Jammer Promotions, Chapman Sisson Architects and Special Touch by Eunice in the small company category; Bevilacqua Research, Port of Huntsville and Will Technology in the mid-size company category; and Aegis Technologies Inc., The Boeing Co. - Huntsville operations and Camber Corp. in the large company category.
Nonprofit finalists were The American Red Cross - Madison/Marshall County Chapter, The Arc of Madison County and United Way of Madison County.
Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each were also presented to April Long of Lauderdale County High School, Alisa Dauro of Catholic High School in Huntsville and Daniel Laan of Fort Payne High School. The scholarships were sponsored by Dr. L. Alan Jones, The Fraternal Order of Eagles-Auxiliary No. 3263, The Greater Huntsville Rotary Foundation and Redstone Federal Credit Union.
Don Logan, a native of Hartselle who is the chairman of the Media and Communications Group for Time Warner, served as keynote speaker.
