Huntsville-based Atlantic Technologies has been acquired by Optimal Geomatics, a mapping service and software provider based in British Columbia.
Optimal Geomatics has entered into an agreement to acquire MD Atlantic Technologies Inc. (ATI) for $5.1 million, according to a news release. ATI is a subsidiary of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates, a Canadian aerospace company. MacDonald Detwiler bought ATI in 2000.
Founded in 1961 as Atlantic Aerial Surveys by former members of Brown Engineering's (Teledyne-Brown) dissolved mapping division, ATI provides geospatial information services, including digital aerial mapping data, airborne laser survey (LiDAR) information, geospatial data, and photogrammetrically engineered map products.
Optimal Geomatics specializes in providing mapping services and software to the power line and pipeline utility sector.
"MDA, ATI and Optimal have worked closely together for two years, sharing a common vision and strong business values," said Colum Caldwell, president and chief executive officer of Optimal Geomatics. "This acquisition reflects Optimal's open approach to the right opportunities."
ATI has about 60 employees.
