Qualis Corp., a Huntsville-based technology services company, has received the Family Friendly Certificate of Achievement Award from the Corporate Foundation for Children.
The award is given by the nonprofit foundation to businesses that have policies that help employees balance work and family.
Qualis executives understand "that family values means valuing the family," said Mark Kennedy, the chairman of the foundation's board of directors. "It's really the family that makes for good employees."
Qualis was established in 1993 by its president, Elizabeth N. Morard, and its vice president, Mary A. Engel. Both women have families, and "we understand the challenges that families face," Morard said. Although it's impossible to meet every need and request, "we want to help our employees to achieve a balance" so they can take care of their families and be successful employees.
Qualis now has 135 employees.
Since being notified of the award, Engel has been approached by employees who say they do believe Qualis is a family-friendly employer. "That means a whole lot to us," Engel said.
A reception on Tuesday honoring Qualis was sponsored by the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, Corporate Foundation for Children, North Alabama Society for Human Resource Management and The National Children's Advocacy Center.
