Huntsville-based Sirsi Corp., which specializes in library information management technology, is merging with Dynix Corp. of Provo, Utah. The headquarters of the company, named SirsiDynix, will remain in Huntsville, said company spokeswoman Katy McCann.
"As our new name indicates, this is a 'merger of equals,' " Patrick Sommers, chief executive officer of SirsiDynix and previously Sirsi's CEO, said in a prepared release.
"We're bringing together two solid companies with 20 plus-year track records to create a global organization that offers the library community unparalleled technical expertise, the broadest array of products and services and unmatched service and support. And because we're profitable and financially sound, customers can count on us today and down the road."
McCann said Tuesday there's been no decision yet on how the merger will effect Huntsville employment. Six integration teams, made up of management representatives from both companies, are now working to establish organizational schemes, effective strategies for the company's future and other issues, according to the company's statement.
Integration of the two companies is to be completed by the end of 2005, McCann said.
Sirsi has 390 employees, including international staff members and distributors, with 170 in Huntsville at 101 Washington St.
The combined company, SirsiDynix, now has 725 employees worldwide and about 510 in the United States. Primary offices are in Huntsville, Provo and St. Louis, Mo., in the United States; Montreal and Waterloo in Canada; London, Paris, Hamburg, Madrid, Leiden, the Netherlands and Hvidovre, Denmark in Europe; Melbourne and Adelaide in Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; and Singapore, Taipei and Shanghai in Asia.
SirsiDynix serves 4,000 library clients worldwide through more than 20,000 locations. It has a suite of library technologies, including the Unicorn and Horizon 7.x library management systems.
Jack Blount, Dynix's chief executive officer since 2002, was appointed a consultant responsible for completing the development of the next-generation Horizon 8.x/Corinthian, and a member of the company's board of directors.
Sirsi was founded in Huntsville in 1979 by Jim Young, Jacky Young and Mike Murdock.
