3D Research chief named chamber's executive of year

5 small businesses, 1 nonprofit honored with annual award

To a standing ovation, Lisa Williams, the founder and president of 3D Research Corp. in Huntsville, accepted the Executive of the Year award Thursday night at the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce's 19th annual Small Business Awards Celebration.

Williams thanked her husband, Phil, her employees and the local business community.

"So many of you have been a great part of my being here and the success of 3D Research," she said.

Winners in the six other categories Thursday night were Omni Team LL, business services; Chapman Sisson Architects, manufacturing and construction; Spine Care, personal services; Brown International, technology; Bama Jammer Promotions, wholesale/retail; WEDC Foundation, nonprofit.

Other contenders for Small Business of the Year were Bishop's Flowers, Padgett Business Services, Cyn Shea's Complete Catering Inc., Davidson Technologies, Delta Research, Digital Operations Corp., Intuitive Research and Technology Corp., Perkins Technical Services Inc., Qualis Corp., Radical Systems Inc., A Realty Group, Shearer & Associates, Steve Steele Custom Homes and Woodland Homes of Huntsville.

Other contenders for Small Business Executive of the Year were James Holeman of Holeman Scientific Corp. and Curt Harrelson of MagnaCom Inc.

Others up for Non-Profit of the Year were American Red Cross, Girls Inc. of Huntsville, Hospice Family Care, Huntsville Botanical Garden, Junior Achievement of North Alabama, Land Trust of Huntsville/North Alabama, Sci-Quest, The Arts Council Inc. and The Volunteer Center of Madison County.

This year's event sponsors included APT Research Inc., FPMI Solutions, HiWAAY Internet Services and The Huntsville Times.
