2 area companies win safety awards

The Business Council of Alabama gave its Annual Safety Award to two area businesses at the group's annual Safety Awards Luncheon on Friday.

Vulcan Materials Co.'s Scottsboro Quarry won an Award of Excellence, which goes to companies with no lost-time accidents. Vulcan has gone 20 years without an accident.

Huntsville Utilities' Electric, Administration and Gas departments were among 13 companies throughout the state to win the most Commendation Awards, given for most-improved safety records.

Vulcan and Huntsville Utilities were among the 42 member companies around Alabama to share a total of 118 awards.

The Business Council of Alabama's safety awards are held each year to recognize outstanding performance in job safety. The council is a statewide business association, representing more than 5,000 Alabama businesses that employ more than 750,000 workers.
