The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Huntsville-based Aerospace Products Southeast Inc. as federal Subcontractor of the Year for the Southeastern United States.

Aerospace Products was founded in 1987 by Helen and Nelson Wimberly as an aircraft fastener and tool service. The company now operates in three locations - Huntsville, San Antonio, Texas and West Plains, Mo., servicing the aerospace, airline and defense industry.

The firm's core business has grown to include military standard fasteners, tooling and materials procurement, supply chain management, warehousing, on-site supply integration, electronic commerce and related services.

Aerospace Products has 41 employees. Its offices are located at 1130 Putman Drive.

The SBA is recognizing the company for building an excellent reputation as a true partner with its customers. The firm is well-situated for future growth, but remains a family-run corporation that places high value on employees, customers and suppliers, an SBA news release said.

Aerospace Products is a supplier for Boeing Co., Lockheed Martin Co., The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Northrop Grumman Corp., Science Applications International Corp. and Raytheon Systems Co.

"We are extremely pleased to be recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Boeing Co. for our efforts; it makes all the challenges worthwhile," said Tracy Wimberly, Aerospace Products' chief operating officer. "We look forward to expanding our reach with the continued assistance the SBA brings to companies our size and growing our business as a partner with the Boeing Co."

Helen Wimberly is the president and majority shareholder, and Nelson Wimberly is on the company's board.
