MADISON - The Planning Commission on Thursday night approved the site plan for the new Columbia Elementary School on Balch Road. The school, which will be the city's seventh elementary school, is expected to cost $9 million and open for the 2004-05 school year.

The commission also approved the site plan for the proposed Bradford Commercial Park located north of Bradford Farms Drive and east of Hughes Road.

The commission set a public hearing for its December meeting to consider changing the subdivision regulations related to granting aviation easements in projected future noise zones of Huntsville International Airport.

The airport's long-range plans include building two runways just west of the Limestone County line and south of Interstate 565. The projected noise zones would be west of County Line Road, north of I-565, reaching to just south of Palmer Road.

The subdivision regulation change would require an aviation easement to be recorded on residential lots in the projected new noise zone. An easement would allow commercial jets to fly over the property.

In other business, the commission approved various stages of seven subdivisions.
