    HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Raytheon is planning to build a state-of-the-art missile production facility on Redstone Arsenal and creating about 300 jobs. The aerospace giant already employs about 600 people in Huntsville. The announcement is to be made today by Dr. Taylor Lawrence, president of Raytheon Missile Systems, at the Farnborough Air Show near London.

    HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Norris Cylinder marked the grand opening of its Huntsville production plant with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, and its president said he anticipates a "great future here." The company, based in Longview, Texas, supplies high-pressure and low-pressure gas cylinders to store, transport and dispense compressed industrial gases. Norris acquired some assets of Taylor-Wharton International's high- and low-pressure cylinder business through the bankruptcy process last month. As part of the transaction, Norris also acquired the Huntsville plant at 521 Green Cove Road.

    MADISON, AL -- The City of Madison is getting a facelift -- to the tune of $305,000. Today at 4 p.m., city officials will announce plans to begin the long-awaited Streetscape improvements in the downtown area. Madison business owners Cindy and Tony Sensenberger will also announce plans for a two-story, six-unit shopping complex. It will occupy the vacant lot next to the old Clay Museum which the Sensenbergers purchased and turned into an art gallery/studio called 16 Main.

    HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Intergraph, one of Huntsville's oldest technology companies, is changing hands once again. The company announced Wednesday it agreed to be acquired by Hexagon AB, a Swedish technology company, for $2.1 billion. R. Halsey Wise, Intergraph's chair, president and CEO who took over in 2003, said it will still be "business as usual" at Intergraph. The company will remain a separate division within Hexagon when the deal is completed, retaining the Intergraph name.

    The United Space Alliance plans to lay off about 15 percent of its space shuttle workforce, the company announced Tuesday. The move, effective Oct. 1, is expected to cut about 10 jobs in Huntsville, along with about 800 to 1,000 employees in Titusville, Fla., and another 300 to 400 employees in Houston.

    HUNTSVILLE, AL -- The Boeing Co. gave Huntsville's layoff -shaken aerospace community some good news heading into the holiday weekend, saying it had managed to cut a planned layoff today from 100 to 29 employees. Spokesman Ed Memi said the job savings came through transfers, retirements and other management moves.

    HUNTSVILLE, AL. - A key NASA contractor laid off 102 aerospace workers in Huntsville Tuesday, sources said, bringing to nearly 300 the number reportedly sent home in the last week as the Constellation rocket program collapses toward a funding deadline today. Jacobs ESTS group, a prime contractor for Constellation, made the cuts, according to workers who asked not to be identified and a new Facebook page called Huntsville Space Professionals.

    A surprise NASA decision to invoke an obscure federal spending law to slash Constellation rocket funding this summer could cost hundreds of Huntsville workers and up to 5,000 nationwide their jobs, the space agency confirms. The Boeing Co., which employs 300 people on Constellation here, said Thursday it will hand termination notices to an unspecified number July 2. Their jobs will end Sept. 3 unless Boeing can find slots in other programs, spokesman Ed Memi said.
