Teledyne Brown Wins National Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award

Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. (TBE) announced that the company received the American Psychological Association’s (APA) 2009 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award (PHWA) in recognition of its workplace practices and promotion of employee health and well-being.

TBE won in the large for-profit category and was one of only five employers from the U.S. to receive the award this year.

“TBE is honored to receive this award,” said Rex D. Geveden, president, TBE. “We are committed to investing in our employees and those investments translate into higher morale, stronger job performance, the ability to better recruit and retain employees.”

The company excelled in PHWA categories of employee involvement, health and safety, employee growth and development, work-life balance and employee recognition. TBE’s incentivized wellness program, mentoring program, online learning opportunities, on-site recreational park and child care were also cited as practices that helped earn the company a 2009 PHWA.

“In these tough economic times, a healthy, productive workforce is more important than ever,” says David Ballard, PsyD, MBA, APA’s assistant executive director for corporate relations and business strategy. “Employers who embrace the connection between health and well-being and organizational performance are better able to develop a high-performing workforce that serves as a competitive advantage in the marketplace.”

TBE won the Alabama Psychological Association’s State-Level Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award in November 2007, qualifying the company to be nominated for the APA award. Teledyne Brown was the first company in Alabama to receive the state award.
