Armed Forces Celebration Week Officially Proclaimed

Armed Forces Celebration Week officially started in Huntsville/Madison County Monday, June 23 when an official proclamation was signed at RSA by military and local officials. A battalion of OMEMS soldiers was on hand to kick-off the Huntsville/Madison County celebration, which was recognized by the U.S. Army as the best in the nation.
The Armed Forces Celebration is an annual week-long series of events planned by the City of Huntsville, the City of Madison, Madison County, the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County and the Association of the U.S. Army to show appreciation to the military for their very important role in the defense of the nation and to pay tribute to those who serve as soldiers, sailors and airmen.
“Our local military activities play a critical role in the defense of our nation. Last year, Redstone Arsenal was responsible for the efficient management of over $30 Billion in federal budget including more than half of the Army’s weapons procurement budget. The direct and indirect economic impact that they have here accounts for roughly half of our local economy. Redstone spending in this community will top $5.6 billion this year…that’s billion with a “B,” noted Larry Capps, Chair of the Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee. Continue »
