SE Software Engineering and System Engineering Conference

The SE Software Engineering and System Engineering Conference 2008 will be held May 12-14 at the Von Braun Center. The theme is Next Generation Technologies – Challenges and Opportunities. The Department of Defense, NASA, Academia, and Industry are trying to address questions such as: How will you prepare for the next generation of Systems and Software Engineering Opportunities, Challenges, Risks, and Threats? How will your organization optimize the utilization of the unique skills of your youngest workers (video gaming, texting, etc.)? How will you develop Systems and Software flexible enough to utilize tools and techniques that do not currently exist and be able to adapt to future threats that are not currently anticipated?

Some info on the 2007 SE3 conference and some general SE3 info is below.

(SE)3 Conference Goals
1) To provide a venue for System Engineering and Software Engineering professionals in the region to enhance their skills and knowledge in systems and software engineering
2) To further advance Huntsville’s reputation as a technical center of excellence
3) To introduce top university graduates to the rewarding systems and software engineering opportunities in the Huntsville/Madison County area

(SE)3 Conference Sponsors
The (SE)3 Conference is sponsored by the Tennessee Valley Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) as well as a number of other academic institutions and corporations. IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, and INCOSE are also supporting our (SE)3 Conference this year. In addition to academic and corporate sponsors, the following Federal agencies and organizations are participating in the conference: Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command, Army Aviation & Missile Research, Development & Engineering Center, Software Engineering Directorate; Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Information Science and Technology Directorate; Missile Defense Agency; and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.

Industry Involvement: BAE SYSTEMS; Dynetics; Jacobs; Northrop Grumman; SAIC; Teledyne Brown Engineering; Teledyne Solutions, Inc.; Westar

Academia Involvement: Athens State University; Auburn University; Carnegie Mellon University - Software Engineering Institute; University of Alabama in Huntsville

(SE)3 Conference History
Since it’s inception, the (SE)3 / (SE)2 Conference has attracted many of the nation’s most influential leaders in software engineering. Previous (SE)2 Conference presenters included Dr. Barry Boehm, Mr. Watts Humphrey, Mr. Don Reifer, Dr. Stephen Cross, Mr. Bill Neugent, the Honorable Claude Bolton, Dr. James Larus, Mr. Bryan Hurd, and Dr. Larry Leibrock. The 2004 (SE)2 Conference was attended by over 500 professionals and students.

The success of the (SE)3/2 Conference can be attributed to the large number of science and engineering professionals in the Huntsville/Madison County region, a technology-rich region with the second highest per capita concentration of scientists and engineers in the United States. These professionals, involved in space, defense and commercial work, no longer need to travel outside the area to gain the latest information in systems and software engineering and technologies. Local federal agencies and organizations, along with area corporations and academic institutions, have also played a key role in the success and growth of the (SE)3/2 conferences.
