Teen Cert Training in Huntsville Area School

During the 2009 Spring and  Summer school semester, HandsOn Greater Huntsville will provide Teen CERT training to students from three-area high schools; Columbia High,

Grissom High, and Oakwood Adventist Academy.  Students

will be trained to become Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members.

Teen CERT is a 20-hour course that teaches young people what to do in the event of an emergency that affects their family or community. The role of a Teen CERT member is to respond in an emergency situation until professional help can arrive on the scene.. Some of the areas covered in the Teen CERT training are how to treat life-threatening conditions, search and rescue operations, fire safety readiness, teamwork and triage.  CERT training will provide the student with knowledge on what to do, and most importantly give them familiarity with the role of the area's first responders. Upon training completion, the students will be provided an emergency backpack with supplies such as flashlights, safety vest, hardhats, and first aid kit supplies. Teen CERT is a national program recognized by the Department of Homeland Security.
