EXHIBITION OPENING

Encounters: Robin Rodgers, April 20 - June 29, 2008

Robin Rodgers, Double Frog Effigy Bowl, 2008, raku fired clay

The Huntsville Museum of Art’s award-winning Encounters series of regional contemporary art continues with a selection of 30 ceramic works by Robin Rodgers of Tallahassee, Florida. Since 1992, Rodgers has made his living as an artist working in clay who specializes in raku firing, a 16th-century Japanese technique that creates a crackled finish. Rodgers decorates his engaging pieces with an array of recognizable wildlife from the Gulf Coast region, including dolphins, turtles, wading birds, alligators and manatees.

Rodgers’ Encounters exhibition showcases a number of new works the artist created with this exhibition in mind. HMA is pleased to be the first museum to host a solo exhibition of Rodger’s outstanding work.

This exhibition is organized by the Huntsville Museum of Art and sponsored by the Women’s Guild, The Huntsville Times, Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
