"Keepin'
It Green Barrel Project"
A fun way to a) keep one's lawn green by watering in an
environmentally friendly way AND b) support the original
"green" organization - The Land Trust?
Land Trust Board
member and Moon Dance Chair Tami Bolte saw painted wooden rain barrels in
Kentucky. She decided that rain barrels painted
by local artists would make creative Moon Dance silent
auction items. Partnering with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama,
she found some superb plastic barrels and the "Keepin' It Green Barrel
Project" was born.
Jennie Couch, the Alabama A&M Art Professor in charge of the
"Artistic Tile Bench" project, was kind enough to help us prime
the barrels in preparation for ten local artists to work their
magic. Jennie, her husband Gary, Emmie Mayne and Cathie Mayne
sprayed them at Jennie's A&M studio.
We have had *tremendous* response from the art community, but ten barrels
allowed only ten artists. The artists were asked to make sure that
there was a moon somewhere in their artwork.
The barrels will be showcased out in the community for two
weeks prior to the 10th
Annual Moon Over Three Caves Dance on September 19. Pictures
and artist bios will also be posted in a Land Trust Huntsville
Facebook album and on our website. These original masterpieces will be up
for bid at the Moon Dance silent auction.
Many thanks to artists Beth Bacchus. Bernard Berry, Rebekah
S. Bynum, Mary Jones, Johanna Littleton, Wendy Perez, Renee Prasil, Jeff
Roots, and She She of Birmingham for sharing their talent to help further
the land preservation work of The Land Trust.
