HREGI Overview
  • Successful implementation of this economic growth initiative will result in the Huntsville region being recognized - statistically and by reputation - as the leading technology-based region in the South. We will move from mere mention of Huntsville among peer cities - to the community others desire to be.

  • This initiative is based on interviews of more than 50 community leaders, many of them major investors in the chamber. Comments were analyzed in depth and will be addressed with targeted programs and projects.

  • The initiative, in its current state, is not a detailed operational plan. It is a framework for addressing the ambitious and aggressive expectations of our major investors and community leaders. Details will evolve as leadership teams are assembled and activated.

  • Past, current and emerging community leadership will be meaningfully engaged in the planning of the Huntsville region’s economic growth strategy.

  • Strategic planning will include short, intermediate and long-term objectives and will be conducted throughout the year. Organizational structure for planning will have visionary, strategic and operational components.

  • The chamber will meet unprecedented accountability measures and will more visibly demonstrate its value.

  • This initiative explores long-term funding strategies for the chamber, including conditioning our membership for ongoing support as we meet and exceed accountability measures. We will also thoroughly investigate the feasibility of an endowment-funding vehicle for economic development.

  • We will implement programs that aggressively seize opportunities in space and defense, including BRAC, while continuing to diversify our economy.

  • The concept of regional economic development will not only be a theory or lip service, but will be put into practice. It is an integral element to our future success.

  • The chamber will speak for the business community. The chamber and the business community will drive economic development in our region.

  • Absolutely essential to the success of this initiative is effective relationship management. The chamber will enhance personal communication with its major investors, key chamber members, existing businesses and community leaders. It will improve overall personal, written and electronic communication of its value with its membership.
