| HREGI Overview
As the lead economic development organization for the Huntsville region, the Chamber is responsible for creating and sustaining key programs that prepare our community to: effectively compete in the global marketplace, support strong economic expansion and enhance our community’s quality of life.
Five years ago, community leaders recognized that the Chamber’s ongoing activities needed perpetual funding through one consistent program. As a result, the economic development activities of the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County have been guided by the strategies outlined in the HREGI plan. Investors and participants in the Chamber’s plan measure the community’s economic performance against industry accepted economic development criteria to achieve a relevant return on investment.
HREGI is comprised of seven key strategies designed to move our community’s economy forward by creating strong partnerships and alliances throughout the region. The strategies focus on growing our existing industry base while also recruiting targeted industry to continue to diversify the local economy. Protecting our defense and aerospace industries and assets and growing a skilled and trained workforce are equally important strategies of HREGI. These strategies require a positive community image that ensures our community is recognized regionally, nationally and internationally. And as many business leaders know, in order to ensure future growth potential, required infrastructure must be in place. Lastly, and equally as important as the other six strategies, is maintaining accountability to our investors and stakeholders.
We use these strategies as the roadmap to our destination of being globally recognized as the premier community to live, work, and play and to relocate and expand a business. It takes a dedicated and committed group of business leaders to ensure a smart future for Huntsville, Madison and Madison County and the surrounding region.
